Morocco Hands Over Donation to Malawi

The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco this morning officially handed over 500 metric tonnes of fertilizer to the Government of Malawi, in what Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco to Malawi, Mr. Mohammed Oumiyer, described as a demonstration of the enduring bond of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Malawi Government, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Honourable Roza Fatchi Mbilizi, MP, said the donation is a timely support to farmers and will also help accelerate the conclusion of ongoing negotiations between Malawi and Morocco for long-term, sustainable fertilizer production in Malawi.

“As negotiations progress toward the conclusion of a comprehensive Bilateral Fertilizer Production Agreement, which is expected to culminate in the establishment of a fertilizer production company in Malawi by the Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP Group), this generous, symbolic donation of 1,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer—with this advance handover of 500 metric tonnes—stands as a tangible demonstration of goodwill and commitment,” she said.

The handover ceremony was also attended by the Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Ms. Erica Maganga; the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Chauncy Simwaka; the SFFRFM Board Chairperson, Professor Moses Kwapata; and the SFFRFM Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Master Gadama.
